Above; Top South Australian father & son racing combination Stan and Grant Roberts are pictured during a recent loft visit. Grant is holding a Van Loon race winning daughter from "ProteChe" x "Dynasty". This highly talented pigeon was 1st club, 5th Open and the first placed yearling in the SAHPA from Hawker 305klm against 2,732 birds 12/6/10. Stan also noticed that this hen has a spot eye cluster which is often associated with freak breeders.

Champion South Australian long distance flyers Wayne and Cheryl Meyers are pictured during a recent loft visit. In addition to racing with top results Wayne and Cheryl are great administrators for the South Australian Homing Pigeon Association. Wayne is a member of the SAHPA Special Races & Long Distance Committees, Cheryl is also a member of both committees plus is the General Secretary of the SAHPA.

Ray says "the Barossa Valley is a great place for people but not so good for pigeons, the peregrine falcons are in big numbers and are always giving the pigeons a hard time".

David is a very keen fancier and his excellent work as an administrator has included the introduction of the SAHPA short distance championship, training and race unit replacement initiatives plus increased prize money back into the sport.

The Warrnambool Club conducts a great squeaker sale at the end of January each year where top class local and interstate birds are auctioned to raise funds for the club.


Top South Australian fanciers Phil and David Thalbourne are pictured during a recent loft visit.
Both Phil and David have enjoyed top results over many years flying in the SAHPA.
David is also the Chairman of the SAHPA Management Committee.

Stan is holding a young Pryor-Goodger pigeon and has his own family of Goodger's which have been kept intact since purchasing top birds at Allen Goodger's sale in 1982.

The SAHPA Hall was recently named in honour of Bill Walford in recognition of his massive contribution to the racing pigeon sport in South Australia


Geoffrey Jackson of Victoria is pictured handling one of his young stock pigeons, a direct son of the "Goldmine Cock". Geoffrey is coming back into the sport and has a keen eye for top long distance birds with a preference for Goodger and Pryor bloodlines.

The Adelaide Pigeon Club conducts 5 races for the 2009 season with $15,000. paid in prize money for each race.

Champion South Australian flyer Lee Abbott is pictured handling the "Goldmine Cock" during a recent loft visit. Lee is an absolute ace at long distance racing having won many blue ribbon SAHPA events including Alice Springs 1320km.


Mark Horridge from Innisfail QLD is displaying one of his breeding hens, an inbred daughter of "Phantom" obtained from pigeonsales. Mark has won an incredible 13x1st prizes from 18 races over the last two seasons. Now that's something to smile about!!

In 2008 "Gilchrist" was placed in the SAHPA from 490klm against over 4,000 birds. A full sister was placed 5th SAHPA 490klm against 4,071birds and 13th SAHPA 740klm against 2,610 birds (clocked in the dark). A brother was also placed in SAHPA from 970klm against 2,129 birds.
